CF Montreal Earns First Win of the Season
CF Montreal earned its first win of the season on August 5th, 2023, with a 2-0 victory over Chicago Fire FC at Saputo Stadium. With this triumph, Montreal improves to a record of 1-5-5, climbing out of the Eastern Conference basement.
The match's opening goal came in the 25th minute when Joaquin Torres slotted home a penalty kick after a foul was called on Fire defender Wyatt Omsberg. Montreal doubled its lead early in the second half, with a goal from Ismael Kone, who slotted the ball past Chicago goalkeeper Gaga Slonina.
Upcoming Games for CF Montreal
CF Montreal will look to build on this momentum with a busy stretch of upcoming games. On August 12th, they will host the New England Revolution at Saputo Stadium. Three days later, they will travel to face FC Cincinnati on August 15th.
On August 19th, Montreal will host Nashville SC, followed by a road game against the Columbus Crew on August 22nd. They will then have a week off before facing Toronto FC at BMO Field on August 29th.
Chicago Fire FC Struggles Continue
Meanwhile, Chicago Fire FC remains winless in its last five matches, extending its winless streak to eight games overall. The Fire currently sits in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 3-7-5.
The Fire will look to turn things around when they host the San Jose Earthquakes on August 13th. They will then travel to face the Philadelphia Union on August 19th before returning home to host FC Cincinnati on August 22nd.
