Bayern aim to sign relegated defender
Ex-Arsenal loanee linked with the German giants
Bjelica arrived to replace Fischer, not Svensson
Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing relegated Burnley defender Erik Pieters. The Dutch left-back spent last season on loan at Sevilla but failed to prevent them from dropping into the Championship. Pieters has just one year remaining on his contract at Turf Moor and is expected to be sold this summer. Bayern are looking to strengthen their defence after losing Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. The German champions have also been linked with a move for Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon, but Pieters is seen as a more affordable option. The 33-year-old has 10 caps for the Netherlands and has played over 300 Premier League games. If Pieters does join Bayern, he will become the latest in a long line of Dutch players to have played for the club. Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel and Roy Makaay are just a few of the Oranje stars who have graced the Allianz Arena.
